You have to admit La Lohan doesn’t exactly have the best rep in Hollywood but I won’t deny it, I love her. So here’s to the talented La Lohan who just happens to be my birthday twin too.

Having a DSLR does not make you a bona fide photographer.

February 11, 2009 · 5 Comments

I think this isn’t the first time this issue’s been brought up because I know Jbarks once wrote about it as well last year or the year before but a certain photographer at a show I went to a couple of days ago has forced me to want to write this post.

Gig photography has grown increasingly popular the past couple of years and while I do appreciate what they essentially do for us the audience (take pictures for us to remember said show/performance and capturing important moments in local music history) the increasing number of young punks who think they’re bona fide photographers just because they own a dslr is becoming such a problem, its become irritating for us the audience.

These young punks basically had their daddys or mummys buy them cameras and they suddenly think their good enough to be gig photogs. They come into shows carrying their camera bags with pride but basically don’t know shit about basic photography or know the photo taking etiquette when shooting shows. They take photos lousy in composition, stand in front of you for way to damn long blocking your view of the band and are unaware of their surroundings.

Said show I attended last week was an event I had to cover for work and said photographer basically stood in front of Ronny and I for so damn long we couldn’t see anything unless we leaned forward which then caused us to block the people seated beside us. Yes it was a seated show, you’d think he’d have been more aware that he was blocking us when he stood there but no he didn’t at all. Every other photographer in the venue knew what to do except for this young punk.

He was even given an official photographer tag so I knew I was going to end up viewing his pictures and passing them to my editor. I’ll send anyone his official web link if  you wanna see the pictures. They were as predicted, horrible. Bad composition (hello learn the 1/3 rule please! Also, chopping some one’s head or arm out of the picture automatically makes it a lousy shot cuz you made the person look like he’s decapitated and learn how to focus please. Also if you don’t know how to work with light don’t be a gig photographer cuz you clearly overly relied on you flash which you didn’t even use properly) and told no story whatsoever. The performers ended up looking horrible in the pictures too. I predict the designer’s gonna have one hell of a time trying to make those pictures work for the publication. Wayne Umehara would have screamed at him till he pissed his pants if he was in our photog class.

So kids, what I’m really trying to say is, if you don’t know the basics and you don’t know how to use light and you don’t know the proper etiquette then don’t bother being a gig photographer. Go learn the basics and improve before you dive into it. We have enough extremely talented people taking pictures (even if they rarely come out to shows to shoot nowadays) for shows for the time being. And no, just because a scene kid tells you your pictures are awesome that it really means they’re awesome.

What they are..

January 11, 2009 · 2 Comments

You know what they are? They’re those sad, pathetic bullies you see in cheesy high school films who now try to spend their post high school life trying to justify the things they did as cool. They’re trying to hang on to whatever glory they thought they had. Deep down inside they know a lot of people just thought they were complete losers for bullying people they deemed “losers”.
They’re those sad, pathetic people who try desperately to hold on to the fact that they were “prom queen” or part of the “cool crowd” because the truth is they don’t have anything else to be truly proud of.

Vote for the right person

October 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

People should really just stop making excuses for Palin. So what if she has a communications degree? A communications graduate would have known how to explain herself better. Let’s just all be honest with ourselves here and stop making excuses for her, we cannot allow this woman to be the second most powerful person in the world. She is clearly not qualified. Being a “great” mother and having the skills to bake a kickass birthday cake will not help the United States get out of what has to be the worst financial crisis ever.

All this talk about some voting based on race is ridiculous. Did no one listen to Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality.”

“ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Change is a hard thing to accept, that I understand. But don’t you want to vote for the better candidate because he has the abilities to save us from this financial crisis? God created everyone as equals. You can be black, asian, hispanic, caucasian, we’re all the same. Vote for the better candidate based on his experience and what he can do for the country in the future not because of the colour of his skin. I urge you to think things through and make the right vote. Make the right vote people, your decisions affect all of us around the world.

Goodbye Forever

September 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We don’t talk anymore and we haven’t for close to a year now so do youself a favour and stop making a fool of yourself. I’ve completely shut you out of my life and I have no intentions of ever letting you back in. Whatever “good times” we had back then I’ve chosen to completely forget because you aren’t the person I knew when I was 15. You’ve sunk so low the only word to describe you is dispicable.

So say goodbye forever because there’s no going back.

I need my space..

September 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I don’t know why, but I honestly believe some of the most important people in my life went away because of your presence in my life. So sue me if pushing you away is what I need to do right now.

Cuz I don’t give a fuck if you don’t like my shit..

August 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

Like Nad says, “We’ve moved on from our mass comm life, so why can’t some people just get over it?”

All the shit that happened, the he said she said, the who’s popular and who isn’t shit is just getting soo old. People should just grow up and get it through their heads that we really just don’t give a flying fuck about those things no more. There are more important things in life that require our time and attention. Living in the past is just useless.

Mass Comm will eat you alive then build you into a rock void of all useless emotions.

Since when?

June 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tickets for Death Cab for Cutie went on sale on June 27. On June 28, a bunch of my friends tried getting tickets online only to find out only Cat 8 tickets were left. They tried getting 2 and couldn’t get any because the system says they are unable to process the request. Called Sistic to book tickets via their phone booking system and guess what? 1 FUCKING TICKET LEFT.

1 FUCKING DAY AND SUDDENLY ALL THE TICKETS ARE GONE?

Since when was Death Cab soooooo mainstream in SG? How many people that actually bought tickets actually REALLY REALLY listen to Death Cab and actually know their music from before that lame ass OC show? Urghhh I swear if I find out idiots who bought tickets leave after the first song like that did with Broken Social Scene I will get even more pissed off! So many of us could have gotten better seats if it weren’t for those who bought tickets cuz they thought it’d be wayyyyy cool to attend BSS then leave after the first song. If the same thing happens for Death Cab, urghh war!!!

WE DEMAND AN EXTRA DATE!!!!

Good times, good times..

June 16, 2008 · 2 Comments

Being sick is total absolute bitch but it was so worth it heading out on Saturday night. Best set ever and I haven’t laughed that hard in awhile.

Friday was good too. Got to see people I haven’t seen in forever (HELLO TIMMY, HELLO IAIN, HELLO GORDON) and watch Nizam get insanely drunk.

Its the little moments that count really.
